Jupiter Ascending Movie Review

I saw very few trailers on this movie, and even then I still had high hopes for this movie.

Channing Tatum isn't one of my favorite actors by any stretch of the imagination, but I don't hate him at all. As for Mila Kunis I love her solely off the fact that she's from one of my favorite shows of all time, That '70s Show, while also lending her talents to Family Guy as the voice of Meg Griffin. I think in combination with the fact that she is here, which I always give her the benefit of the doubt, with directing from The Wachowskis, of The Matrix & V for Vendetta fame, gave me some semblance of interest. I wouldn't say that I was completely disappointed with this film, but I wasn't remotely happy with it either. To me, there was so much that this movie could have done with special effects and cast to get more out of it. When I got done watching this movie, I felt like either a reboot or a really done sequel could save interest in this franchise. But you know Hollywood, if it doesn't perform the first go round, then there is no saving any movie.

The one lone surprise in this movie for me was the fact that Sean Bean popped up, and naturally his scene was the best scene of the movie. Well I'll take that back, the escape from the planet towards the end was pretty awesome. Actually now that I think about it, Sean should have actually had a larger role in this movie than he had, and a more positive one. I think a little reboot spin off of sorts could actually thrive with him, he's just that great of an actor. All in all, there honestly isn't a lot one could say about this movie, I'm really trying to find something positive to say beyond the special effects. Had this movie come out earlier in the 2000's it would be a success, but in a day and age where script and plots matter just as much as special effects, it simply had too many holes in it for my liking.

This isn't really a movie that I would suggest to anyone, it probably won't be a movie that I check out either later on in life. It is what it is, a subpar and waste of talent and big budget. Did you see this movie? What do you think of it? Leave the comments in the section below.

Until next time guys.
