2015 In Review

So I was checking out some blog posts and I came across Tiffany, creator of Endless Bliss, post about her grand year of 2015. I thought it is pretty dope how it was constructed with stats and personal favorites from each month of the year, with a brief summary to go along with it. While she had pictures and videos from her YouTube channel, I'm not there yet, so give me a while before I get on her level of blogging lol. I thought it was so cool that I decided to start doing one for myself here on Cold Knowledge. I'm not one to take ideas and run them like they are my own like some other bloggers do. I will give proper credit where it is due and I thank Tiffany for having that great idea. Once again check out here post here when you get a chance: Endless Bliss 2015 In Review.

My Kingdom II

I remember I use to be one of those people that always said on December 15th: "new year, new me". I use to be that person that said: "if such and such doesn't hit me up before the new year then we are done". Oh and my favorite one of all time was: "I'm going to wait until the new year to start, but for now I'm going to go in right quick and do all of this bad stuff. You know, get it out of my system before the new year comes". Yes I use to be one of those people that talked a whole big game but never backed it up with actual effort. I will admit that shamefully, but I can admit now proudly that I don't do that anymore. Why you ask?

Because of growth.

Top 10 In Entertainment | 2015

2015 was a very lackluster year as far as movies go, to me at least. I know a lot of people liked all of the movies that came out this year but I'm not so easily swayed. Personally I think the movies that were suppose to be good, let me down in a big way. But fortunately for us we have 2016 approaching and we have tons and tons of good movies on the way here. But for now we have my top movies of the year.

This year I wanted to try something new and hand out some awards for the best of each type of movie because I love different types of movies, except for horror, as apparent from my lack of inclusion on this list. Here are the movies for each category and my top movies and top worst movies of the year:

2015: Retaliation

At some point this year my moves became very deliberate.

I don't know when that was nor do I care. I just know that at that defining moment, things completely changed for me in the best way possible. It was probably because I was fed up, it was probably because I was tired of being sad and depressed all of the time, or it was more than likely because I was tired of being tired. Either way it goes, a change came and I was finally ready for that moment. I've been saying to myself for years that the day will come when I'll be ready to leave useless attachments behind and when that day came I will focus solely on me and my wants out of this world.

The Hateful Eight Movie Review

This movie was typical Tarantino, filled to the brim with awesomeness.

When I think of a western, I think of the standoffs and all of the elaborate plot twists that come from a time when literally the smartest and toughest person wins the gun battle. This movie was with no shortage of surprises or lines and held up it's end of the deal. I want to say first and foremost that seeing it in 70 mm film format was a pretty dope thing; Quentin Tarantino out did himself on this one. With the experimentation in the Western Film genre with Django Unchained, Tarantino comes back around this time with a more sophisticated, yet gory film that holds true to his filming style.

Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens Movie Review

It's Monday.

I waited exactly four days to post this review, so if you haven't seen this movie yet, then too bad for you lol. But a little disclaimer: there will be spoilers if you haven't seen this movie yet. So from here on out, it's on you if you keep reading past this point.

First I want to say that this movie was AMAZEBALLS!

Until We Meet Again, So Long!

I'm stepping away, but I'll be back shortly.

You know when I set out to blog for five days a year straight I honestly didn't think I would make it. But here I am, at the beginning of the new year and I did it successfully. There were days where I wanted to give up and just quit, there were days where I didn't know what I wanted to post, there were days where I wanted to post too much, there were days where my job got the better of me, there were days where personal problems got the better of me and there were days where the coding pissed me off so bad that I didn't want anything to do with blogging anymore.

My Favorite Rap Artists, Vol. 12 | Nas

I never make the same mistakes,
Movin' with a change of pace, lighter load,
See now the king is straight.
- (Stillmatic, 2001)

When you think of someone to look up to in regards to setting the standard for something that you really want to do, you image the legends and those who failed to live up to their potential for the lessons that you look to build off. When people refer to Nas, they don't simply refer to him as a legend, they often refer to him as being the best who ever did it. That's a lot to take in when you're from a different era and you have just his albums to go off and not the aura that he gave off during his time in the early 90's. While Jay Z undoubtedly had the sales to back up his claims as the best ever to do it, more times than not you heard MC's come to Nas' side and say that record sales isn't indicative of who's the best.

December 2015

Wow, 2015 is almost over.

Last year I set out to blog consistently for 5 days a week, I've pretty much met that standard and more this past year, and I'm quite proud of myself. I've said before in a couple of other posts that it's been a task going hard all year like this but I finally made it. That's one thing that I can cross off my bucket list of things to do blogging wise, (I'll share that post one of these days). If you're wondering what post I have up this year, simply click here on my 2015 Posting Schedule, So Far post and you'll see each one that I've written this year. There are a lot of great blogs in there that have gotten a lot of great reviews.

30 Days of Thanks | 2015

So I've decided to take part in the 30 Days of Thanks challenge that's going on right now on twitter. I decided to take part because it was just something that I felt like I should do because this year has been amazing in terms of my personal growth. Now is the perfect time with the holidays right around the corner and the start of the new year, so this is pretty much a little message from God saying let everyone know what you're thankful for this holiday season. Who knows, I might make this a yearly thing because you know, life changes so you're thankful for different things every year.

Not Easily Swayed

So a little while ago I talked about how you should take time and care for yourself in the post, Invest In Self. After writing that post and the subsequent conversations that came as a result of it, I realized that a lot of people are simply not taking care of their mental well being. What's more alarming about it is the fact that they have many external forces tearing apart their mental fabric, causing them to over think and stress over situations that they should not be stressing over. Don't get me wrong, I am for people and helping them any way that I can, as long as it's within reason. Over the years I've learned from many first hand experiences that people will only stay in the same position they are in if they are never forced to change their ways and/or thinking. This not only goes for the person that is struggling but also for the person that is continuously helping that person stay within mediocrity. Both are situations that may take a while to realize, but are situations that need to be seen as soon as possible.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2 Movie Review

When I initially heard reviews for this movie a lot of people said that they wanted more action in there befitting for an end chapter to a well rounded series, especially with how Mockingjay, Part 1 moved so slowly, I was a little sad. So naturally when I heard that this movie was just like Spectre in a lot of aspects, I just decided in my mind that I would forego this movie and catch it when it came out on on Blu-Ray. But by stroke of luck, (and me forgetting that Creed came out on Thanksgiving), I ended up at the movies to watch this and it was better than I thought it was going to be.

My Journey To 400

So I've decided to head into the New Year the right way, again.

Yes I am one of those people that constantly makes these false promises to myself at the end of every year, (I'm not perfect and unless you live in a glass house ..). This year is definitely different from previous times when I said that I would do this and that's because it now involves some health issues. I'm not going to get into all of that at this time but getting healthier, (or just shedding some weight), is definitely a life changing move because I simply need to at this point. And while I would love to lose it for health reasons, I really want to lose it to for the simple fact that I want to get on this ride next year at the fair lol.

What are my goals you ask?

The 2011 Thanksgiving Fiasco

I was originally going to post another blog today, but since it's Thanksgiving and people are asking me about my plans, I wanted to sit down and tell a story about a past thanksgiving citing one of the reasons as to why I value you my friends and family. Hopefully this story will put in perspective how lucky some of you guys are and hopefully it will wake you up and make you realize what you have right in front of you.

It was November 2011, in Iraq.

Creed Movie Review

I never doubted this movie was going to be good, but I didn't see it being this good.

I'm a big fan of the Rocky Franchise, unlike most people, and I think that Rocky Balboa served as a great soft reboot of the series that allowed this movie to happen. That story line saw a unfulfilled Rocky come back and leave it all in the ring one last time so that he could move on with his life outside of boxing. That story translated into an even more lost Rocky once he was done inside of the ring. He was missing his late wife Adrian before, but with nothing left for him to fill that hole in his heart, he started longing for her and Paulie more and more everyday.

Enter young Adonis.

Dope Movie Review

This movie did it's own thing and should be held to it's own level of excellence.

A lot of the critics were trying to compare this movie to a lot of the movies that came out in the 90's and while they share the same elements when it comes to story telling, Dope does it's own thing and made a path back towards an important level of storytelling sorely missed in the African American community. When watching this movie and analyzing further and further into what it was rather than what people wanted it to be, I appreciated it more and more.

My Dating Life, Or Lack thereof ..

"Because I don't want to".

So lately I've been asked a couple of times as to why I choose not to date, and above is my answer to that question. Now of course I have a reason for not dating beyond me not wanting to, I usually say that because people can't leave well enough alone when they do get the real reason. Which in turn annoys me when they try to give their unsolicited advice about a matter that doesn't concern them. Which also brings about the comment of "I just want you to be happy" like single people aren't happy. You don't need another person to validate who you are or who you're trying to be in this world, I wish more people understood that.

Your Favorite Blogger's Favorite Blogger

Here I was writing this blog post that I felt I HAD to write and that I had to get off my chest. That's my thing, I write blog posts that either come from the heart or thoughts in my head that I wonder about. When it comes to my reaction pieces it's all about how I feel so I rarely rely on research or second opinions. I thought it was perfect blog that let everyone know that I was down but by no means counted out. I did my usual not read it and I almost posted it but something told me to get a second pair of eyes on it.

Jesus Is Love

He continuously reminds me that he's always there, always.

There are times when I think I'm fine, when I think I'm doing everything right and I think that I'm happy. I might be, I might be fine, but more times than not I'm reminded that I'm not ok. Sometimes, we as people, like to mask the pain that we are in and that we like to act like nothing is bothering us when everything actually is. Sometimes you don't even realize what you're truly feeling until you actually have that moment of clarity and it all hits you like a ton of bricks in the face. Most don't know what to do with that moment other than crawl up in a ball and become secluded from the world. I know that I do that often when everything is just coming down on me at once, I tend to just hide in my little bubble and don't talk to anyone.

Word Is Bond, Part II

I just watched Spectre and I realize that more than ever it's time for Daniel Craig to step away from the role of Bond. I know that he is tired of the role, as you can see from his many comments on the matter, but also in his body language. Don't get me wrong for one second, he's one of the great Bonds and personally my favorite, but it's clearly time for him to walk away on his own terms and Spectre could be just that for him. While the directors say they are confident that they can get him to come back I say don't do it. It's time to for someone else to put on suit and go out and be the suave killer that we've come to love over the past couple of years.

Top 10 Black Superheroes

I want to first thank the good folks over at World of Black Superheroes for coming up with the awesome list of the Top 30 Black Superheroes which gave me this idea of creating this ranking. I never really notice how much I like black superheroes over their counterparts so I  thank those guys and gals over there for making the archive and for offering a plethora of other things, so make sure you check them out and support.

It Would Be Nice If ..

It just seems like the whole world is going to hell in a handbag.

Spectre Movie Review

This movie felt a little off to me.

I came into this movie with such high expectations with not only the story line but with the cast as well. For the most part it returned the cast of Skyfall that was such a great movie steeped in action, the plot line had me invested and the characters were mainstays of the series, which made the ending that great. You can even stretch back to Casino Royal and Quantum of Solace as two movies that also held their own and transformed the way we looked at Bond here in the modern movie era. I read somewhere that those three movies gave the franchise a much needed face lift to compete with the likes of Jason Bourne & the ever youthful Ethan Hunt.

Getting Back To The Grind

Hmmm, this isn't like me.

Quirky, Brown Love Interview | A Talk About Black Male Bloggers

So recently I sat down with Quirky, Brown Love for my take on male black bloggers and what's going on with them in regards to their current status. I also got to share briefly who I was to her readers and it was a pretty awesome opportunity to go on a try to provide how I feel about a couple of things.

A Decade of Accomplishments

So I was pursuing the blog scene and I stumbled across A Decade of Accomplishments by ClassySassyMrs.com, and she had a pretty nifty idea on a cool list on things to celebrate in terms of personal accomplishments over the span of a decade. It's another great list idea to have on the blog, so I'm going to do my decade from when I was a fresh 19 year old to my now seasoned age of 29. So let me stop beating around the bush and get straight into it shall we?

#DevDay, Vol. 2

Another successful Dev Day in the books ladies and gentlemen.

Summer's Breeze

Friends are the siblings God never gave us.
- Mencius

Well of course when I did this series I just knew I had to include my birthday twin in here. It's been about seven years since we've been friends, but don't quote me on that, I've been known to get it wrong lol. But none the less the only way to sum up this friendship would probably be that of two siblings that randomly send each other things to look at that we think is funny lol. That's all we pretty much do at this point, act like old people in each other messages, and there's not a thing wrong with that. I chose that picture above because that's the face that she makes on a daily basis, she's actually very happy in this picture, she has definitely perfected the Kanye face lol.

The Spear of Vengeance

So I finally put two and two together.

If you follow me on social media or had the privilege of talking to me in real life then you know I tell this story often. But if you haven't done either then basically the goes along the lines of me minding my business and then I'm dragged into another person's business lol. No but seriously that's how it goes most of the time when it does happen. I'm literally standing there, unsuspecting, and then bam! I'm trying to figure out how I got there and how to get out without getting into any serious trouble that could result in bodily harm. But now that I think about it, I'd rather be in that position than to not be in that position. Here's how the story usually goes:

The Power In My Smile

If there is one thing that I've learned about this past weekend, it's that I'm a man of rare stature.

Let me explain ..

Didn't Care Then, Don't Care Now

Funny story, I know how much you guys like my funny stories.

So I'm sitting here mind my business, per the usual, and I get a text message from someone that I haven't spoken to in a long time. Now I have to say that I'm quite possibly the worst texter ever, depending on who you ask. The reason for that being this kind of story that I'm about to tell you, so if you want to know one of the reasons why I don't respond to my text messages, here's a great one.

Top 10 War Movies

This is one list that I'm proud to put together.

I'm a veteran, not a war harden one, but a veteran none the less. So war movies are on the top of my list because it's relatable to me and what I've experienced. So with veterans day right around the corner I figure that now is about as good as time than ever to put together three things that I love the most in this world: my blog, my love for movies and my love for the military. So in honor of veterans day I decided to put together a top 10 list of war movies that I love. Now keep in mind, this is a list of movies that I love and not one based off anyone else opinions or polls. I actually went through my extensive movie collection and hand picked each one of these with careful consideration and reorganized this list a dozen times over.

November 2015

Finally my month has arrived!

There's so much going on from Thanksgiving, Veteran's Day celebration, Black Friday, Cyber Monday and not to mention my birthday. Then on the top of that there's Movember, which promotes men's health through growing facial hair to excessive lengths and making boys look like grown men. I usually love this time of the year for obvious reasons and I shall be participating.

Insidious: Chapter 3 Movie Review

I didn't really like this movie.

KRITically Acclaimed Tour!

I had the extreme pleasure of checking out one of my favorite artists on tour this past weekend. It's no coincidence that I did a write up about Big K.R.I.T. for My Favorite Rap Artists series for the month of October. I knew that I was going to check out his show in advance and I wanted to give you guys a warm up to this posting. If you haven't checked that out, go read that first if you don't know who he is and see why I think he's one of the best out right now. But as for the rest of you, the show was pretty awesome and if I had the chance to do it again, I would definitively check out the show.

Elite of The Week Feature!

You guys know that I'm very humbled anytime I'm recognized by any great blogger that I know or any group that decides to feature me. With that being said I want to take time to thank one of the groups that got me back into the groove of blogging and that's The Blogging Elite. I've met some pretty cool bloggers through this group and they are very supportive when I reach out to other bloggers for certain questions that I may have. I've told the creator @TiffanyKhyla of Endless Bliss often how much I credit her blog for motivating me in the very early stages of me deciding to get back into blogging. So with this recognition it feels pretty great and that I'm still on the right path to my blogging goals. So I thank everyone over at the Blogging Elite for their hard work and dedication for keeping that group up and running so smoothly, it's greatly appreciated! I am honored and humbled for this feature!

50 New NC Law's Reaction

So recently North Carolina, the state that I live in at the current moment, passed some laws into effect that I felt like I need to comment on. Some were a little out there while others seemed to be on par for what they were supposed to be. Here are ten laws that I took notice to when I was scrolling down the list; you can check the rest out here: 50 New NC Laws.

NC State Fair 2K15

So this is the first time I've been to the fair since that unfortunate accident that resulted in a death, and it was a pretty nice day. The good lord smiled down and blessed me with a relatively cool day that required my light jacket and the crowd wasn't too bad to start with. The lines for the rides were decent, except for the fact that the one ride that I didn't really want to get on, (but was forced to), I didn't actually didn't get to ride because I weighed too much. Haha, I'm not the least bit sorry about that one! But for the most part the lines for the rides weren't bad the ones that I got on were actually pretty cool as well. Just know that when you go there plan on spending about $60 on tickets if you're planning to actually ride a ride. Rides were better than they looked as well and they all surprised me to be honest.

The Last Witch Hunter Movie Review

Bone Tomahawk Movie Review

This movie was kind of messed up once it got going.

All Bark & No Bite

Recently I was subjected to a way of thinking and situations that I actively avoid these days. I use to be unhappy, I use to hate every single day and I use to hate being around the people that I HAD to be around. Then that all changed when I made the conscience decision to be happy with myself and make my life that much better. The day I took my life back is the same day I was blessed with the vision to see and understand who people were well before they even finished their first sentence. It's not judging by any stretch of the imagination, it's called using what you've seen and been through in your life to make an accurate assessment of one's character. Now I'm not saying once I see that they aren't any good I just don't deal with them, I actually keep them at arms length and I wait and see if they shoot themselves in the foot, which they usually do.

Black Is The New Black Guest Post x Interview

So I had the extreme pleasure of doing a guest post and subsequent interview with Black Is The New Black blog. If you aren't following me on twitter by chance, *cough cough* @ColdKnowledge *cough cough* shameless plug, then you probably haven't caught my tweets on it's importance within the online community. There are dozens of blogs circulating around on how to do most things or the latest scoop on something, but there are few blogs that actually report things that matter such as the current climate in America regarding race relations. It's no brainier that it's not a lot of blogs like this around because people are scared to actually talk about these things still, but BITNB is definitely not scared to go there at all.

Words To Live & Die By

I'm not one to laugh at people, but after reading When Blogging Goes Wrong: Writing About Men The Men You Date I had a nice little chuckle to myself. It was about 2002 when I learned my lesson about writing on certain things when it deals with dating and my personal life. Even now I still feel the backlash on a couple of blogs just because people think that I'm talking about them. That's just the nature of the beast sometimes when you deal with blogging about how you feel and the results of those feelings. Sometimes people understand that you're not talking about them and even if you are, you had the decency and enough smarts not to mention them by name or be too specific about situations. That's what sets us apart from people that just write about gossip all day long, it's what makes us writers.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren's Black Lives Matter Speech

Black lives matter. Black citizens matter. Black families matter.
- Elizabeth Warren (2015 Edward M. Kennedy Institute speech)

This speech kind of came out of nowhere.
