American Ultra Movie Review

Meh

As a lot of you guys know if you read my movie reviews on here, I'm not the biggest fan of Kristen Stewart. Personally I think she's just stale as hell when it comes to acting, like she shows no emotions. This time around was a little different, she didn't completely suck or make those annoying faces that she always makes. I think this movie was a little bit of a do whatever kind of role where she could act how she wanted to without actually having to put too much thought into it. Jesse Eisenberg was Jesse Eisenberg in the fact that he acted like a nerdy white boy who suddenly became a superhero of sorts. Honestly I was surprised by his ability to pull of an action movie. This serves a major purpose for the fact that he can pull off Lex Luthor in the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice film.

But that's neither here nor there at the current moment.

Having Topher Grace as the villain was kind of awesome because he pulled off the cowardly role well this time around. Connie Britton playing the counterpart to Topher really did a great job in showing the contrast. John Leguizamo was great in his comedic role, even though he had no business saying the n word. (side eye). Bill Pullman randomly showing up was awesome to me because you know, 90's action movies are my favorite.

The special effects were actually pretty dope. I think that was the best part of the movie for me, actually seeing the effects of gun shots and explosions is always cool. Also an underrated part of this movie was all of the drawings that were in this movie. Whoever the artist is for those is pretty dope and they have real talent.

So with a pretty decent story line and pretty good cast I think this movie should have made more money that it should have, I think it's just a victim of bad timing. No one was really going to pay to see movies around this time with school starting back and people still feeling the effects of the summer movies hitting their pockets. I think this movie will be better served as a Netflix kind of deal or something you randomly watch from Red Box if you really like action movies.

Overall I think this movie was alright at best, it could have been better, or maybe not. I'm not particularly too keen on seeing a sequel or anything, I think this movie went as far as it could with what it had. In an era where all action movies are made to be serious, this one was pretty funny, it just couldn't match wits with a movie from earlier in the summer. I'm only recommending this movie if you absolutely love action movies and you don't really have anything to do at the moment.

*cough cough* Spy *cough cough*
