This movie started out real great, but then I don't know what happened.
I mean personally I say that this movie was good, but it could've been great. Personally I think that Emily Blunt's character was too scary and soft at times. There moments in the movie that I expected her to do something off the chain and make everyone shit a brick, but she simply didn't. I mean I understand from a storytelling point of view where this movie went, but I think it would've taken it to another level had she done something purely bad ass here.
Benicio Del Toro & Josh Brolin gave her all of the tools needed to pull off something great but the writers insisted that her and her partner Daniel Kaluuya act like a couple of pre-teens going to high school with all of the seniors. I've been a fan of Del Toro's for years, going all the way back to his role in Joyride. I've come to like Brolin in the last couple of years after I saw him on True Grit. When I saw both of these guys in this trailer I simply knew it was going to be good, and they definitely delivered; with Del Toro really coming through.
When I think about the film style of this film I can't help but go back to the Mexico-American border scene and realize how bad ass this movie would have been had Blunt not acted so scary throughout the whole deal. Her not being able to act like a woman possessed but rather a damsel in distress really annoyed me because I'm over those roles in Hollywood. Other than that tidbit, this movie was good, not great, but good; and with news of Del Toro getting his own spin off I pray that there is nothing but gritty, hard hitting action to show how he got to that point of being who he was in that movie.
At the end of the day I would easily suggest you watch this movie because it was one of the better ones for the year when a lot of movies disappointed. Sciario was in the mold of film style that I love now and I'm definitely looking forward to the spin off and adding this to my collection for future analyst. Did you see this movie? If you did then leave a comment in the section below, I'm interested in hearing what you have to say about it.
Until next time guys.
