Wanderlust, Part 1

We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure.
There is no end to the adventures we can have,
If only we seek them with our eyes open.

I had a very deep discussion the other day with someone random in Starbucks, and to say the least that it was interesting.

Well first this conversation came about because Starbucks was abnormally packed for a Thursday afternoon, so we basically shared a table. He said something to me when he heard me listening to Queen's Flash Gordon Theme, he was surprised because I'm black and listening to Queen, so we had a discussion about eclectic African American's and we both agreed that Jimi Hendrix was the greatest guitarist and that the Beetles were the greatest Band. Side bar, it's always great when you can have a healthy discussion with someone that's not in your demographic, on a topic that's not really common place. Shows that there is a level of understanding out there in this world, and that music connects people.

But after that he asked me what I was working on and I told him that I was a blogger and he asked me what it was about, and I told him what the deal was and how I'm currently trying to expand into other areas. He actually pointed out that he likes to read the personal blogs on more than one occasion because it shows the depths of a person’s creativity and what they have to offer the world. After he looked through my site and we talked about some posts, he offered me some advice on a section that I should try to add to the site, traveling. He said that traveling in your late 20's and early 30's is probably one of the best things that have ever happened to him before he settled down and had a family.

He said he's been all of the cliché places such as Paris, London, Beijing, Ontario, and the likes of those places, he said his most memorable places were going to those countries that forced you to go out and experience the culture. He cited Egypt, Nigeria, anywhere in the Caribbean, and pretty much most of South America. He said that going those places really opened up his eyes to the world and how closed minded people are to experiencing other cultures. He said that's where he really found himself too, he was just stagnant with life and didn't really know what was going on around him until he got up and went places. He said his traveling days aren't over, he's waiting on his two kids to get older and he retires to go out and go to some places again and some places new if these conflicts ever simmer down. He says every year him and his wife take a trip somewhere for a week alone.

He also explained to me that traveling wasn't as expensive as everyone thought it was, he researched online and found the best deals he could find and befriended people in other countries through social media and crashed on their couches and did the things that they did for fun and got to see the side of the country that most tourist don't usually get to see. He asked me if I was married or had any kids, to which I replied no, and he said that there wasn't really an excuse as to why I'm not out experiencing life. He said if it's a money thing, then if I really wanted to go somewhere, I would find a way to get there if I really wanted to. And as I started to think about it, he was definitely right. I'm the type to get on Tumblr and look at all the cool photos of all the places where people go and I always see myself getting out there and taking those same kinds of pictures.

I'm going on 29 this year, and lately I've had an itch, and I never knew exactly what it was, but now I know. I'm the type to get up and go; I go places and experience things that are my thing. Wanderlust definitely describes me and who I am in life, it's my niche. So lately I've just been doing a whole lot of research into what it means to travel the world and what places offer the most. I've been networking like crazy and I've managed to meet some cool people in some cool places. People always ask me if places like Miami and New York are on my list and they really aren't because I'm more so interested with the world at large. I mean I'm going to visit those places, but when I say travel, I mean traveling. Because you only have one life to live, might as well do it being awesome.

Where are some places you would like to visit around the world and why? Leave the comments in the section below.

Until next time guys.
  1. I really want to go back to Birmingham, England as soon as possible since I studied there. I have always been obsessed with Norway and would like to go there as well. I hope that I can travel a lot after I graduate from college. Some other places I' like to go include Australia, Africa, Greece, and ofc every state in the US haha

  2. Have you checked out Travel Noire? Tons of shots of brown folks in exotic locations around the world. I wish I had traveled more before my children were born, but once they're a littler offer I look forward to showing them the world. I'd love to go to Paris, Egypt, Nepal and Fiji.- Tiffani G from MyMommyVents.com

    1. I definitley did Tiffani, I actually have a plan laid out in terms of traveling and they're going to be a big part of it. It's for us to use and come together, why not use it? Thanks for the suggestion, it was great one! I have something special planned for Paris and Egypt is number one on my list of places to go.

  3. Definitely travel! I took a break from my pre-med life and decided to study abroad and I don't regret it! I've been to (and blogged about) Belgium, Venice, Padova, Verona, the French Riviera (Nice), and Monte Carlo so far but looking forward to more places around Europe. Later in my 20s I'd probably want to visit India, Bolivia, Iceland and Dubai. I definitely encourage you to travel soon because the dollar is so strong now!
